Drumroll please!
Only one kind soul was good enough to enter my contest, the fantastic Mr. Jeremy Botter!
I was lucky enough to meet Jeremy in February at Affiliate Summit. Very nice guy, and I’ve been following his blog since. Apparently, he’s been following mine!
You can (and should) go read Jeremy’s post here.
Since Jeremy was good enough to indulge me, I’ve given him his choice of prize and he’s chosen to take the generous James Seligman up on a silver Creative Vado.
So thanks to James and congrats to Jeremy!

Cost per Click (CPC):
- The cost metric for each click to an advertising link.
I remember this type of advertising was all the rage in the early part of this decade, but has since fallen out of favor since the qualified leads are not as reliable or bountiful.

Free Toolsday for June 17th
Once again this week, it’s technically still Tuesday so I’m a bit late for the East Coasters, but hopefully this is worth it.
Tim Carter of AskTheBuilder.com said during the video panel at the last Affiliate Summit back in February that people go onto the internet for two reasons: to be entertained or to solve a problem. A great way to solve 80% of your business related questions is to go to LinkedIn Answers.

I haven’t had occasion to ask many questions since there are SO many useful questions in a variety of topics. In terms of business information that’s relevant to your working life, this tool kicks the crap out of Yahoo! Answers. This is targeted information in a really easy to find format. Unlike forums that can be filled with years of information out of context, LinkedIn Answers allows you to search for the information you need and find it fairly quickly.
Don’t take my word for it… go check it out! LinkedIn Answers. And remember if you’re an expert at something, share your wealth of knowledge and answer some questions too! Karma, people!

Cost per Action (CPA):
- The cost metric for each time a commissionable action takes place.
CPA is a blanket term that describes most of the affiliate structure. There are more specific models with their own descriptions that fall under this term.

Online Marketing Glossary: Cost per Aquisition
To begin, isn’t it sad that I’ve just NOW got around to reading Issue 22 of Revenue Magazine?! I think our subscription might have run out since I got this copy from the stack that editor Lisa Picarille brought to last week’s BAAMC meeting.
Regardless, I’ve let my glossary series’ go once the link series was done. I just haven’t found another good list of definitions to share with you. But here’s a beauty, all online marketing related terms. So this starts the series, first the term and definition, then how this affects me so far and my take. Let the fun begin!
Cost per Acquisition:
- The cost metric for each time a qualifying action, such as sales and registrations, takes place.
Most affiliate programs use this model. Many retail merchants prefer to pay for performance to guarantee that they’re making money while paying commissions. The frequently used abbreviation CPA, however, doesn’t mean cost per acquisition, so watch out.

Win a Creative Vado! or Trackur subscription!
In a possible fail of the Disqus comment system (say it ain’t so, @DanielHa!) I’ve been informed that the comments on my original blog post about my contest appear to be closed.
So in an effort to wrap this bad boy up, entries are welcome via comment on ANY post. Deadline is still Sunday.
I’m going to stick with my original way of entering – write a post in your blog about why you read my blog. Link baiting? I won’t deny it. I got a good suggestion from Andrew Wee of WhoIsAndrewWee.com to forget the link bait entry model and go with random or a survey. Good idea, but it’ll have to wait for the next contest. I’ve never been one to change the rules mid-game (unless it meant winning at Monopoly).
First prize is still a 6 month subscription to Trackur reputation management service courtesy of Andy Beal. Second prize is a Creative Vado pocket video camera courtesy of James Seligman. Third prize is 6 months of ad space at FreshySEO.com courtesy of Eric J. Odom.
