Online Marketing Glossary: Paid Inclusion

Posted on Aug 28, 2008 in Affiliate Marketing, Rambles, Social Media |

Paid Inclusion:

  • Advertising program where pages are guaranteed to be included in a search engine’s index in exchange for payment.

glossary bookThe most common cases of paid inclusion happen on directories.  While they allow almost anyone to submit a link, users are offered a paid solution that’s guaranteed to get their links in front of more users in a more prominent location.  These links are also given more weight in terms of IT resources to make sure they’re coming up in all possible keyword searches rather than just a few or one.

Paid Listings:

  • Listings that search engines sell to advertisers usually through paid placement or paid inclusion.

glossary book
Businesses have traditionally gone this route because it’s a guaranteed placement that’s usually featured above other listings more prominently.  Many directories also offer faster processing to get the link up for paid listings than free or reciprocal listings.

Niche Sites:

  • A website oriented toward a very specific topic or audience.  Niche sites often have high traffic and items can bring higher prices than on general purpose sites because they serve customers looking for unique content.

glossary bookEvery affiliate I’ve talked to will tell you that the key to affiliate marketing is finding a niche.  No matter how you pronounce it, the more specific you can get with the products you’re promoting and selling, the higher the conversion rates will be.  These are already people out there on the internet looking for something very specific, so they’re predisposed to spend money if they find what they’re looking for.

glossary bookThe first step to successful SEO is to identify the KP of your keywords and be sure to include them in the meta tags of your website.  From there you can craft ways of working the most popular keywords into your content.

Earnings Per Hundred Clicks (EPC):

  • Earnings or average payout per hundred clicks.

glossary bookMany networks rank their merchants by EPC to give the publishers a sense of how active the merchant is with their affiliates.  While some people give a lot of credence to this metric, others just give it a glance in addition to all the other stats available.
