Win a Gold Pass to Affiliate Summit West 2012
In July of 2007 I attended my first Affiliate Summit in Miami. It was a fantastic experience. I learned so much, and that was certainly part of the chain of events in my wandering string of jobs to convince me that I liked this industry. The following year at Affiliate Summit East in Boston, I made the decision that I wanted to continue in Affiliate Marketing and build a career rather than just meander along at different jobs. Considering this is light years away from what I went to college for, that was a major decision in my life.
And attending Affiliate Summits helped solidify that for me.
So I want so spread the love and help someone else drive into this dynamic and awesome industry feet first. So I’m giving away a Gold Pass to Affiliate Summit West 2012. This year’s western version of the conference will take place January 8-10, 2012 at Caesars Palace Las Vegas, which I’m excited about since it’s one of the few larger hotels in Las Vegas that I’ve never once set foot into. The Gold Pass will allow you access to the Meet Market, Exhibit Hall, Keynotes, Sunday educational sessions, and online access to all recorded session videos and PowerPoint presentations. Right now we’re still in the Early Bird registration phase, so the Gold Pass is valued at $279 and after October 21st it goes up to $529, so winning this Gold Pass is definitely in your best financial interests!
How do you win this awesome opportunity? Here’s what you have to do. Please post 1 separate comment for each entry. Each entry received one point. The more entries you receive, the higher your chances of winning are.

I’ll be using Random.org to choose the winner from the posts, so I won’t be approving trackbacks or commenting on posts until the contest is over. The winner will be notified via e-mail and will have 48 hours to confirm that they can attend Affiliate Summit West, then I will provide them with the code to register for free. Don’t scam the contest or I’ll out you on Twitter and the blog!
Good night, and good luck!

Ah, how I’ve seemed to turn my back on this website! This wasn’t my first website I ever built, but it was the first domain name I ever bough and started hosting after tiring of Freeservers and Blogger. Including the time this blog was on Blogger, I’ve been blogging here for the last 4 years. I started in August of 2007. This blog started out as a way for me to share my knowledge about professional printing, graphic design, and what I was learning about affiliate marketing. This was right after my first Affiliate Summit in Miami in July of 07 and I wanted to share what I’d learned – which was so much! I quickly started blogging more about my career and affiliate marketing and less about professional printing and graphic design. I have no formal training in graphic design – I’m just some jackass with a good eye for layout and Photoshop – so I felt I had no business telling anyone how to do anything in the realm of design.
As I progressed in my journey into affiliate marketing, people started reading my blog, and noticing who I was online. By the time Affiliate Summit East 2008 in Boston rolled around, I’d been asked to lead a roundtable discussion on self branding at a pre-summit event held by Affiliate Classroom. I was asked because people had taken notice.
Not to bore you, lets fast forward to today. I’ve been working in affiliate marketing for about 5 years (since late 2006). I love it. It allows me to work with intelligent people, work from home, work on my schedule, make the money I want to be making, and I don’t feel like my Theater Arts degree is a hindrance since I write a lot and use those creative writing skills – just not in the same way I used to. There was a point at the end of 2008 where I had to fight to stay in this industry, and that meant leaving my job just shy of my 5 year anniversary there, working at a start up marketing agency for awhile, then an OPM agency, until finally settling down at For Me To Coupon. And I love it, and I’m approaching my 2 year anniversary with FMTC in January. Today I’ve spoken at 3 Affiliate Summits and two other trade shows. I’ve been included in Internet Marketing from the Real Experts and written several articles for FeedFront Magazine. I walk around a conference and can’t get from one room to another without seeing someone I know or getting stopped by someone. It’s a great feeling of professional pride and acceptance.
I realized recently that through my difficulties with a couple jobs and working my butt off, I lost the desire to blog. There’s a long string of time where the only thing on my blog was Affiliate Marketing Fanatics. But I’ve decided to kick some life into this old horse yet!
To the faithful that still subscribe (or were too lazy to remove me from their feed readers, whatever) I thank you. You may have noticed a lot of guest posts lately, and that’s helped me to reinvigorate the site and renew my spark. More are in the hopper, along with some notes I took at Think Tank (yes, I know that was in May, SO WHAT?!), some notes on sessions I attended at Affiliate Summit East 2011, and some general affiliate marketing stuff.
I’m going to pare down the categories here, and redirect my energy into just a few. Please, tell your friends I’m back. Add me to your blogroll and I’ll add you to mine. Let’s DO THIS!

It’s All About the Cookies!
Philanthropist extraordinaire Missy Ward has announced her latest project to help fellow marketers and share some yummy recipes in her new book, It’s All About The Cookies. As of today, Missy is now accepting folks to submit their recipes! Not only will this be a great book, but it’s ultimately for a great cause. 100% of the net profits will be donated to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, which has raised more than $380 million since 2003 to help fight this horrible disease.
This unique book may look like a cookbook, smell like a cookbook, and you’ll be able to make yummy delicious treats like from a cookbook… but here’s the catch. It’s REALLY a marketing book. When you submit your recipe you must also submit a marketing insight to share with other marketers. So not only are you going to get some great recipes (I’m very partial to the one I submitted), but you’re going to get some marketing schooling.
From their website:
Since the 90’s, affiliate marketers have had a love affair with cookies – not the chocolate chip, or oatmeal variety – but the pieces of code that ultimately tracks affiliates’ sales and commissions earned.
These affiliate marketers are a diverse group. Some work part-time and earn enough to subsidize their income while others have created extremely lucrative businesses.
For the uninitiated, Missy Ward is Co-Founder of Affiliate Summit, Co-Publisher/Co-Editor in Chief of FeedFront Magazine, VP of Operations for MoneyMindedMoms.com, Founder of Affiliate Marketers Give Back, and all around amazing woman I’m happy to know. Also involved in this great project are Mary Poiley, founder of InternetCareerHunt.com; and Jen Goode, Doodler in Charge of JGoodeDesigns.com.
If you’ve got an awesome recipe, and some keen marketing advice or knowledge to share, please submit a recipe!

Affiliate Summit East 2010 is going down August 15 – 17th in New York City at the New York Hilton. I will definitely be there, along with my cohorts from For Me To Coupon. I hope to be speaking on a panel, but which panels will be on the agenda is still being determined. I will also have an article appear in issue 11 of FeedFront Magazine, being distributed at the conference.
The Silver Pass is a $250 value and gives you access during the conference to the Affiliate Meet Market and Exhibit Hall, Keynotes; and access to the Affiliate Summit Social Network. This pass will NOT give you access to any of the sessions taking place. In your comment, please link me to your tweet and be sure to comment with an email address I can easily reach you at, should you win. All comments and tweets must be posted by June 11, 2010. A winner will be announced on June 14, 2010.
Runner Up- Bonus To the second best entry, I’ll give you a paperback copy of Internet Marketing From The Real Experts, a compilation of articles written for FeedFront Magazine about all aspects of internet marketing, including mine! US & Canada only for this particular runner up prize.
Here’s the inevitable fine print. Passes are non-transferable, so if you win the pass you have to use it for yourself. If you don’t contact them to cancel and fail to check in at the conference, you won’t be eligible for any future complimentary passes from Affiliate Summit. These are their rules, not mine, so you must abide. Please enter only if you are not already registered and know you can attend, should you win.

I’m excited to say that an article I wrote is included in the book Internet Marketing From The Real Experts, edited by Shawn Collins & Missy Ward. This is the first book to be published under the Velocity NYC Press imprint by Morgan James Publishing. The official author is “The Gang of 88” as the book is a compilation of articles written for and printed in FeedFront Magazine. The book was given out to attendees of Affiliate Summit West 2010 and boasts 3 minute lessons on affiliate marketing, email marketing, search engine optimization, social media, and much more!
My article on Affiliate Manager Communication Strategies appears on page 15. Unfortunately since I wrote that article towards the beginning of FeedFront’s publication, it says I’m the marketing manager for PsPrint.com, which if you follow my blog you know that’s not true anymore. Oh well! I’m excited to be part of the gang of 88, and look forward to reading the entire book (well, the articles I haven’t already read in FeedFront).
From the back of the book:
What do Jay Berkowitz, Chris Brogan, Brian Clark, Jim Kukral, Ted Murphy, Jeremy Schoemaker, and Mari Smith have in comment? They all walk the walk when it comes to their Internet marketing expertise. And they also have joined dozens of innovators and thought shapers to share their ideas, advice, and insight.
Internet Marketing from the Real Experts is a collection of affiliate, email, blogging, podcasting, video, search engine, and social network rock stars that break down the how and why of Internet marketing in a clear, easy to understand way.
Their voices, their ideas, their action items, and their lessons learned from mistakes – all for you to grow your business the day you start reading Internet Marketing from the Real Experts.
I know that all those flattering words are really meant for the caliber of people listed on the back cover, but I’m honored to be among them in print! Better yet – all proceeds are going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Maybe now I will write that book I’ve been thinking of!

It’s been a slow week for news coming across my desk. Then again, it’s been a slow week for me in general. We’re doing Affiliate Marketing Fanatics about every other week now when news is slow. Hopefully with the upcoming LinkShare Symposium in New York, Affiliate Convention in Denver, and a smattering of other events we should have more to talk about soon! In the meantime, check this stuff out.
- Geno Prussakov posted some pretty great articles on his blog this week, 7 Common Problems with Affiliate Data Feeds and Common Mistakes of New Affiliate Program Managers. I have to give Geno kudos for some great articles!
- Andy Beard wrote an insightful entry on his blog about his Product Launch Affiliate Strategy, and what checklist he uses to determine if he’ll support a new affiliate launch or not. It’s definitely a good read for any affiliate starting out, and any merchant who wants to optimize their launches to make them attractive to affiliates.
- FeedFront Magazine has issued a call for entries for their 7th issue, which will also serve as the conference guide for Affiliate Summit East 2009 in NYC, at which I’ll be speaking!
- Speaking of Affiliate Summit East 2009, they’re all sold out of booths! You snooze, you lose!
- More interesting posts about whether or not you should disclose affiliate links with Shawn Collins’ Affiliate Link Disclosure Manifesto. Good stuff.
