Affiliate Marketing Fanatics 5: Staring Down the Governator

Posted on Apr 7, 2009 in Affiliate Marketing, Affiliate Marketing Fanatics |

Affiliate Marketing Fanatics – A Publisher (Mike Buechele) and an Affiliate Manager (Trisha Lyn Fawver) talk about all things Affiliate Marketing. From blogging to branding, social media to search, video and more!

We are a touch late with delivering last week’s show to you. I was out of my office away lobbying against California AB 178 on Tuesday and then at Web 2.0 Expo the rest of the week, so Mike and I took today to catch up on a few things. We start all business and devolve into my rant on the etiquette of booth staff at trade shows. So be sure to heed my words and stop, collaborate, and listen!

A few things we mention this week:

  1. My second job as a California lobbyist against AB 178
  2. Affiliate Voice: The Voice of the Affiliate Industry launched this week. Their president is Melanie Seery of NYAffiliateVoice.com
  3. Twitter dropped their auto-follow service, so we took a look at 3rd party apps like Tweet Later.
  4. Mike explored Max Banner Ads as an adserver for his blogs.
  5. A brief recap of the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco and the tools I found potentially useful: StartForce, Safari Books Online, and GooseGrade
  6. Another tech blog by our pals Sam Harrelson and Scott Jangro called Cloud39.com
  7. Shout outs: Stephanie Lichtenstein’s awesome work on the #advertisingtax organization and Facebook group, and Daniel M. Clark’s great help via Twitter.

This episode comes in at a mouth watering 52 minutes.

Affiliate Marketing Fanatics Episode 2: Sweet Success

Posted on Mar 18, 2009 in Affiliate Marketing, Affiliate Marketing Fanatics |

Success! After some trials and tribulations with Skype, wookies, Call Graph, Pamela, and a totally un-listenable recording from earlier in the week, we finally have a decent episode! HUGE shout out and thanks to Joe Magennis of Geek Dads @ Home for some great step-by-step instructions to help a couple of fledgling podcasters out! We still had some issues with sound quality but I think I got most of those out in the edit.  So, without further ado take a listen.

Yes, I’m late on sharing this, but I also have a feeling that most the people apt to listen already pay attention to the GeekCast.fm network 🙂

In in this episode we discuss:

So please, go check it out and comment and let us know what you think!  You can listen here or at our wonderful hosts GeekCast.fm!

Affiliate Marketing Fanatics Episode 1: Almost a Fail

Posted on Mar 2, 2009 in Affiliate Marketing Fanatics | 6 comments

So I’ve returned rejuvenated from my vacation and I’m here to announce that I’ve started a new podcast with Michael Buechele of 11|15 Media called Affiliate Marketing Fanatics.  In the podcast, hosted generously by GeekCast.fm, we discuss different tools and aspects of affiliate marketing from both the publisher perspective (Mike) and the affiliate manager perspective (mine).

We recorded our first episode just before I left for vacation and Michael worked on the editing and posting while I was gone… unfortunately as we’re just learning this stuff, there are some strange audio issues and the very end got cut off.  We were using Pamela to record over Skype, so if anyone out there has any suggestions to fix them, I’m all ears.

In our first episode we discuss Zemanta, the BAAMC, RingRevenue, the PMA, and Facebook. So please, go check it out and comment and let us know what you think!

Affiliate Thing Post-Show

Posted on May 15, 2008 in Affiliate Marketing | 3 comments

Affiliate Thing JackOn Tuesday I had the pleasure of co-hosting the Affiliate Thing podcast with Shawn Collins of Affiliate Summit.  Let me start by saying that I was unaware that it’s a live show since I always listen to it on iTunes or GeekCast.fm.  I listened to the recording last night that’s up over at GeekCast.fm and I have some criticism for myself.

First though, the experience.  Monday night I spent nearly an hour fussing with Skype.  The test call was choppy and I couldn’t understand all of what it was saying.  But all my settings seemed fine.  I determined at last that it had to be my internet connection, which has a tendency to be not so good in the evenings sometimes.  I must have called the test call in the neighborhood of 30 times.  I also called my husband’s cell phone to see if it was any better – nope.  He could hear me pretty well but I could barely hear him.  I finally give up and hope that it works in the morning or that there’s another option for me to call in or something if all else fails.

I can’t sleep (of course) because I’m nervous about the show.  I finally get to sleep and surprisingly have no trouble waking up early the next day for the show.  I’m on the West Coast and I usually work 10 am to 7 pm at PsPrint, so I had to get up around 8:30 am to wake up enough to tape the show at 9 am.  I fire up my home computer and get Skype up and running, calling the test call about 10 more times with only slightly better results than the night before.

I let Shawn know over the messenger portion of Skype that I’m having issues and he suggests we start anyway and if it’s too bad I can drop off.  Luckily when WebmasterRadio.fm called, it was much clearer.  Which begs the question – shouldn’t the test caller be the best quality possible?  I digress…

The call itself went great in the moment… there weren’t any points where I was sitting there silently banging my head.  I fumbled the intro to myself, which is ironic because that’s what was keeping me up the night before – how to whip in PsPrint AND this blog.  I figured that was the only part I could rehearse, and coming from a theatrical background I’m a fan of rehearsal.

Now, for my “notes to self”.

  • Be more conscious of how close my mic is to my keyboard and how loud I’m typing.
  • Do more research about what’s going on so I can suggest more topics instead of being a ‘yes’ woman.
  • Don’t laugh – it doesn’t come across well over the phone/skype.
  • Attempt to fix the skype thing because in the recording I do hear myself cut out sometimes.

I think, all in all, this was a good exercise for me in giving up control of my image and gives me some things to work on.  Please, go listen, and add on to my notes so I can work on my presence, public relations and such!  In advance, I truly appreciate it.
