A New Adventure in my Career

Since 2008, I’ve been fortunate enough to work in Performance Marketing at a variety of positions, and to work at home for most of those.  I’ve been an affiliate manager and, for a time with FMTC, I was running all the sales, marketing, customer service, and social media.  It’s been an exciting adventure, that’s for sure.  For the last 18 months or so, I have been working on starting my own marketing agency, Blinkstar Media.  The time has come, however, to put that on hold for awhile and start a new adventure working in direct marketing, going back to commuting to an office every day.

BlogHer just announced their next conference, BlogHer PRO ’14.  It will take place December 3 & 4 in Redwood City.  I had a good time attending BlogHer ’14 down in San Jose, but I was left wanting more take-home, actionable items that I could use to build my blog.  This conference seems to focus more on that aspect of blogging.  Most notably, it promises that I will walk away with a new, professional media kit.  This is something I know I need, and would love to have.

A TrishaLyn.com Redesign! Yay!

Things look different around here at TrishaLyn.com (unless you’re reading this through a feed reader, then things are pretty much the same…)!  I finally found a new theme from the fine folks at Elegant Themes that I’m happy with.  It’s simple, but I like the top navigation and right hand sidebar WAY better than everything being on the left.  I don’t know, it just seems more classic this way!

Of all the platforms for smartphones, iOS ranks number one when it comes to safety. There is just no doubt that an iPhone is the safest platform what with the closed OS and Apple’s strict review policies for apps. So if you feel that you want a social app experience and are safe from cell phone monitoring, keyloggers, and all sorts of malware and adware that spreads through social networking sites, iPhone is your best option.  And so, here are the best social apps that will help you socialize with ease and no fear of spyware on your iPhone.

Facebook

There can be no surprises here. Facebook is King App when it comes to comparing social networking apps for any platform. When we talk about iPhone, we know that the people over at Apple have managed to master social networking app creation and have a great free app version on iTunes. The app is very close to the real website and offers almost everything that is available on the site. The rating is 5 out of 5 and is the most used social app on iPhone.

Meebo

Though Meebo also has an excellent rating (5 out of 5 like Facebook), it still will have to come in a close second behind Facebook since the latter’s preference outdoes anyone else’s. But what is great about Meebo is that you can use it and still avail Facebook chat along with dozens of other chat services all rolled into one iPhone app. The app is free and very easy to use.

IMO Instant Messenger

This is a great app that also allows you to keep in touch with friends through multiple social network platforms and services. Among services it incorporates are AOL, MSN, Facebook, MySpace, and many more. Unlike Meebo, it supports Skype which gives it an edge over some other apps for Skype fans. IMO Instant Messenger is free and allows users to sort out and organize contacts, user push features, search chat history and more. The rating for this app is 4.5 out of 5 but personally, this app is a better option than Meebo.

TweetDeck iPhone App

This is a favorite among Twitter fans. Though it’s the free version of the Twitter app, fans flock to it since it does offer a lot of good features despite holding back many for the users on the paid version. With TweetDeck users can manage more than one Twitter account on one simple interface. The ranking is 4/5 and hard to beat for a free Twitter app.

Flipboard

Now this app is quite possibly the most comprehensive one when it comes to accessing multiple services. Instead of just incorporating the big names, users can also keep tabs on Tumblr, LinkedIn, and Instagram. All the news feeds come to the users in magazine style updates, keeping everything fresh and fun. Flipboard ranks great with a 5 out of 5 rating.

A question you may be asking yourself if you run an online business is: who exactly are my customers? Sometimes it’s shocking to think that hordes of people want your service. You get that “they love me, they really love me” moment so typified in Hollywood movies. But think about it like this, you’ve done your research, planted the seeds of your business, and are now reaping your due harvest.

You may not need to use Anywho’s reverse phone number finder to learn every possible customer detail on record, but you do want to stay knowledgeable as to who your customer base is. The reason for this is that the market is changing constantly. Social media and search engine customization is always in flux, forever waiting for the next big game-changer or the next big algorithm. Here are a few tips that will help you as you move forward with your online marketing endeavors:

Separate your personal profiles and your business profiles on social media sites.

First of all, you don’t want to harass your friends and family with every detail of your business. Yes, of course, a few times a month it’s acceptable to toot your horn and use your personal profile to discuss an element of your business. But any more than that and you risk seriously annoying your most loyal brand ambassadors.

Increase your exposure.

Configure your site for social bookmarking so that your customers can pass on news of your service to sites like Delicious, Digg, Reddit, and StumbleUpon. Also, create a Wikipedia page for your business. Contribute as much to conversation marketing as you can by taking part in relevant forum discussions and participating in Google groups.

Optimize your site.

If you have the budget for it, create accounts on pay per clicks networks like Google and MSN.

If you’re running a cheaper campaign, look for quality impressions on lower tier networks.

We’re just scratching the surface here. There are hundreds of tools and strategies for beefing up your online marketing endeavors. A successful campaign will require a lot of research and scouring the marketplace for the best models in your industry. No matter what field you’re in, social media etiquette, social bookmarking and SEO are going to be major components to a healthy campaign. Figure out your budget and create a game plan.
