Manicure Round-Up: August Edition

So, I’ve been diving more headstrong into doing my own creative manicures, but haven’t found the time to post about them.  As a result you’re getting a bunch of them all at once!  Here’s the pictures with the details of the manicures I was especially proud of during August!

080113-manicure-trishalynThis manicure was done for my trip to Seattle for our 10th wedding anniversary.  I wanted originally to do something like the manicure I had done for our wedding.  It was my first professional manicure and the only time I’ve ever gotten acrylic nails (first and LAST time, thank you very much).  I tried some things, but with the one picture I have of my hands somewhat up close from that day, I could not recreate them, so I opted for the deep purple of Claire’s Cosmetics “Magic” to match the amethyst jewelry I’d be wearing on our big dinner date we had planned.  Most of the other outfits I brought with me ended up featuring purple so they’d match my manicure too, in case you were wondering 🙂

Sally Hansen Mermaid's Tale Complete Salon Manicure

The next manicure project was quite the journey to find this pesky color!  I went to my local Walgreens on several occasions and they were always out of stock.  I checked a number of other stores and finally on a whim found it at Target.  So thanks, Michelle at All Lacquered Up, for sending me on this hunt after seeing the color on her blog!  I was incredibly happy with how this shimmery color looked, but not how happy with how hard it was to take off!  Such a pain!  Then again, despite being a “Complete Salon Manicure”, I think I may have added a top coat instinctively on top of it anyway.  I had to use the tin-foil method of removal, and even then I remember resorting to scraping the last bits off.

Zoya Labor Day Manicure with PixieDust in Liberty and ChynaFor Labor Day, I decided to get patriotic.  I did different things on each hand… kind of.  I used Zoya PixieDust in Liberty and Chyna since I just could not decide which color to make the primary.  So I used Liberty primarily on my right hand with the Chyna accent nail and Chyna primarily on my left hand with the Liberty accent nail.  In the end it didn’t look as crazy as I thought it might and I was really happy with the result!

I love the PixieDust textured polishes more than the OPI Liquid Sands because they have a hint of sparkle instead of being completely matte.  The texture is also more like sugar than the sometimes weird clumps that OPI comes up with.  What I don’t love about Liberty in particular, however, is that even after 2 months and many attempts with whitening toothpaste to remove the staining, my pinky nail is STILL a blue tinge.  I haven’t had this issue with any other Zoya colors or PixieDusts, so I’m not sure if it’s just a crazy dark pigment or if my nail was just more susceptible or what.

So there you have it!  My August manicures.  Keep an eye out – next week I’ll post about my September manicures!
