Last month was a big month for me in my nail art and acquisition of supplies. I already mentioned in my polish addict confessional that I have added over 30 new polishes to my collection. The bulk of these 30 came during January, from various sources. Apparently people think I have a modicum of influence, so let’s get on with this!
The first weekend in January, I was invited to my friend’s son’s 2nd birthday, so I decided to utilize the dark blue Julep Lacey with some silver attempts with my nail stamping set up. I was super impressed – Lacey was opaque and even in one coat! I’m not sure I’ve ever used a polish that was done in just one coat! I learned some things about nail stamping too. For instance, I should not try to use a glittery silver… it made for an inconsistent image. Also, I need to get better at centering the stamps, as you can see. I’m sure this will come with practice. I bought an assortment of stamping plates as a Christmas present to myself, so I have no excuse now but to just try, try, try again!
Next, I was attending Affiliate Summit West 2014 in Las Vegas. I bought a Sally Hansen Insta-Gel Strips Starter Kit and several different strips a few months ago during a great sale and had been waiting for the right time to try them. Since I had several outfits packed that were of varying colors, I decided to go with Amazing Lace as a classic “matches everything” look.
Since I was not feeling well leading up to my trip, I put them on the night before leaving. I felt like I had to cure them longer under the light than suggested, and even then they were a chore. By the next morning, as I left for the airport, they chipped. I was highly disappointed, since my plans involved meeting up with my in-laws before meeting my co-workers for dinner, and I would not have time to fix them until after dinner. Luckily, since they’d started to chip while I was still home, I had tossed the few extra strips, gel top coat, and little single-finger light into my suitcase and made a repair that night before I started my business meetings the following day.
While at Affiliate Summit, I had a meeting with the affiliate manager for Julep, Char. Char told me more about Julep polishes and more about the company as well. We gushed together about the amazing one-coat qualities of Julep, and I was happy to learn that this was a common compliment of many Julep polishes. Char was kind enough to give me some press samples of Myrtle, Kristy, Candace, Ciara, and Tatiana and a bottle of the Julep Vanish Cuticle Softener & Remover. She also helped to convince me to finally become a Julep Maven. I came home with some fabulous polishes and a new cuticle remover to try. I’ve tried various cuticle creams, oils, and removers and let me tell you now that I’ve used Vanish – it puts them all to shame. It’s the best!
What did I do in February? ONLY MY BEST MANICURE EVER! Stay tuned!
