April showers bring May flowers, or so the saying goes. Well here in California, we’re in the middle of a pretty bad drought. Of course the only showers that we really saw during April were during the weekend I decided to get away and go out of town to rescue my sanity! Nevertheless, I was in a sunny disposition when I decided to get a neon orange done on my toes at my last pedicure, so I matched with a bright and happy neon orange on my nails for this May Flowers manicure.
Yes, confession… I do my own manicures but I do not do my own pedicures. Being a woman of a certain size, I’ll admit, it’s not the easiest task for me to do. Besides, everyone likes to be pampered every now and again, and the added scrub, hot towels, and foot massage make it totally worth the $20 to not do it myself. It’s one of those expenses that I consider a “Mental Health Expense”. Like my monthly massage at Massage Envy, it’s something I do that just helps me to relax mentally to stay sane in my crazy, often hectic work of being an Affiliate Manager.
Back to the pedicure. I went with my friends Jennie and Rachel, and I picked out the brightest, most neon orange I could find. I did entertain other colors…I wasn’t set on orange when I went to get the pedicure or anything. But it spoke to me that day. It’s also not the first time I’ve gotten neon orange, as I am a lover of the color orange (second only to my adoration of the color purple). Besides the fact that neither of them were getting a manicure and I didn’t want to take up a bunch of time getting both, I’ve sort of sworn off getting manicures anymore at salons. The last time I did, I was really disappointed at the quality and wear time. Granted, I was also trying out a new place I hadn’t been to before, but it still solidified that I think I’m done with pro manicures for awhile.
Once I got home, I decided to do my nails in a similar neon orange. The closest I have at home is L.A. Colors Color Craze Spati, which is very bright but not quiet neon. I must rectify this by buying a matching neon the next time I get my toes done, but this was close enough given that no one was going to see my fingers next to my toes for comparison! As I was looking through my Helmer for my trusty Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, I realized that I hadn’t yet tried out the fimo flower slices I’d bought on a manicure. I decided now was the time and found appropriately sized blue flowers with orange centers among my assortment of sizes.
The fimo slices were thin, but still a bit hard to work with. You can see in the photo that they’re not all in the same location on the nail and not all centered as I’d like them to be. I put down a thin coat of the top coat and I was using my fine tip needle nose tweezers to place them onto the nail to get them to stick before a second coat, but they wouldn’t lay flat. I expected them to be a bit less rigid and easier to soak up a bit of the top coat and follow the contour of my nail.
I have a ton of these little flowers in various colors so I clearly want to use them again, but I’m not sure how to make it less of a pain in my ass. Can you dampen these a bit to make them more pliable before adhering them? Have a tip, please share it below! I’ll do some research too 🙂
