Paying more attention recently to nail polish trends and fashion trends too, it did not go without note that Pantone named Radiant Orchid as the 2014 Color of the Year. It’s a nice light purple, and I’m on board for anything purple. I’ve seen lots of representations of what Radiant Orchid is, which seems odd considering that Pantone is a system of colors for designers that’s very exact. I have had so much nail polish come my way that I hadn’t bothered to look specifically for a polish to jump on this trend.
Leave it to Julep to take care of me. In my May 2014 Julep Box I opted for the Boho Glam set, which included Paulette and Jeanne. The website describes Paulette as a “golden lilac tulle shimmer” but in application it really looks a LOT like Radiant Orchid. It might just be my slightly olive/tan skin that makes a lilac look more like orchid, but it’s close enough for me!
After I did the base color of this Radiant Orchid Manicure, I got an itch to try out some little gems I ordered. I am wary of using any kind of nail glue, so I just put an extra coat of Seche Vite over it and immediately stuck the gem to it while wet. It wasn’t really until I put a pink gem on that I realized the polish was more purple than pink. Once I put the gem on, I figured I’d try out another tool I got awhile back… one of those Sally Hansen Nail Art Silver pens. I just waned to try out the dotting method I’ve seen to get even polka dots, and I’m glad to report that both the method worked for some even dots and the pen didn’t gush all over or give me crazy, uneven dots.
So thanks for taking care of me with this year’s trend, Julep. A nice addition to my growing collection!
