Crush, Crush Baby – China Glaze Crinkled Chrome

This Winter, there was a new textured polish on the block.  I always loved the chrome looks that came out years ago, and I’m glad they seem to be making a comeback.  I’m also a fan of textured polishes since they give new dimension to what could be a boring manicure.  After looking high and low for the Crinkled Chrome collection from China Glaze in my local drugstores and beauty supply stores, I gave up and ordered from Sally Beauty Supply online.  I decided to get two colors, China Glaze Crinkled Chrome Iron Out the Details and China Glaze Crinkled Chrome Crush, Crush Baby.  I was in more of a purple/pink mood, so the first one I used was Crush, Crush Baby.

China Glaze Crinkled Chrome in Crush, Crush Baby ManicureWhile it looks more pink on my nails, part of that is just the chrome reflection of light in the room.  It’s definitely more of a lilac than it is pink, which can be seen better in the bottle.  I like the chrome finish and color.  I also really liked that this applied in just one coat, for the most part (some touch-ups needed).  However, this is the 5th brand of textured polish I’ve tried, and I have to say my least favorite.  I was drawn to it because it wasn’t a uniform texture, but varied with both bar shaped pieces and bead style pieces.  As it turns out, that’s what ended up being the problem.

The bars were hard to control and sometimes hung over my nail.  I cut off the obvious strays, but even then this polish just seemed to catch on everything.  It was also incredibly unpleasant when the tops of my nails would end up touching any other part of my body – face, arms, you name it.  It was not a pleasant feel on skin.  Even a coating with Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat only cut down on the scratchy feeling a little bit.  Since I doubled down and bought two different colors, I’m not giving up on this polish.  I will use it again, and will finally try the other color, but I don’t know when.  Maybe Iron Out the Details will be appropriate for when I go to see Frozen at an outdoor movie screening later this summer!

Crinkled Chrome sliding off my Nubar Foundation Base CoatOverall, I can’t say that I’d recommend this polish though.  I tend to wear my manicures for at least a week unless they get catastrophically ruined, and I had to change this one after a few days.  So if you’re the type that only averages a few days before changing color, this could work out much better for you than it did for me.  You might also not be so sensitive to the texture on it when it brushes up against other skin, either.  I didn’t think I would since I’ve never had an issue with any of the other textured polishes I’ve tried (OPI Liquid Sand, Zoya Pixie Dust, Sally Hansen Sugar Coat, Julep Stardust Finish).  Be prepared for a bit of a battle in removing it, too.  The texture really doesn’t help.  However, my trusty Nubar T304 Foundation Base Coat did help a few nails to just slide right off!

Even though I originally bought these from Sally Beauty Supply, they’re no longer available there.  I don’t know if that’s due to popularity or just due to the fact that they were a Winter collection.  You can, however, still get them on eBay (click on my links please, it’ll help me out!).  Actually, you’ll get a better deal on eBay since, even with shipping, I think they’re less expensive than what I paid!  So happy polishing!
