Remember when I went to the opening of the San Francisco Dungeon? Well I had just removed a somewhat unsuccessful manicure that was specific to an event I went to, and I needed something quick and appropriate. I decided to look through some of the polishes I have got recently that I haven’t had a chance to use yet. Julep Scarlett jumped out at me as appropriate for touring the San Francisco Dungeon – vampy, sparkly, and simple. Simple both in that it would be quick to put on and wouldn’t be a lot of work for a manicure that no one would really notice. This was not an event where anyone was likely to compliment my nails, or even see them, really, so I just wanted them to not be bare!
Had it been up to me, I don’t think I’d ever have bought this polish on my own. I received it in the Golden Ticket Mystery Box a while back, hence why it was kind of filed away and not used. I find that I don’t wear red that often, but I also have quite a few variations on the basic red. The Julep site describes Scarlett’s finish as a “Metallic/Chrome”, but I totally disagree. Metallic, a bit, but I would not classify this as chrome in any way. When I think of a chrome finish polish, I think of Sally Hansen Colorfoils or OPI Gwen Stefani Collection Nail Lacquer Push and Shove. The color description is much more accurate, describing Julep Scarlett as a “Vibrant red micro-glitter metallic”.
This polish is very similar to an older polish I have in my collection – Maybelline Express Finish Fast Dry Red Comet. It’s not a dead on dupe as Red Comet has a darker, more “ruby slipper” feel to it. Julep Scarlett is more vibrant. So they can both live in harmony in my collection!
