OBSESSED with Holo Hues!

With going to Humboldt County for Dominic’s birthday specifically to try out most of the breweries in the area, I wanted to do a beer themed manicure.  I took to Pinterest looking for ideas, but everything was either too complicated for my skill level or not quite what I was looking for.  I did so much research, putting off the actual manicure, that I kind of ran out of time to do it.  So, a simple, solid color would have to do.

I have long been on the hunt for a truly holographic nail polish.  In this endeavor I’ve acquired some off brand holographic polishes from my nearby Walgreens that were really just glitters, China Glaze Holographic Cosmic Dust which was better, but still a little dull, and a few top coats that aren’t quite up to par for the true holographic nature I was looking for (Northern Lights Hologram Top Coat in both Gold and Silver, Nubar Hologram Glitter).  While browsing my favorite independent beauty supply store (shout out to Alameda Beauty Center) recently, I ran into a brand I’ve seen online but not in person before – Color Club.  I picked up Color Club Holo Hues in Cosmic Fate to check it out and MAN – I was NOT disappointed!

After doing a little bit of searching online, Cosmic Fate seems to have been part of the 2013 Holo Hues collection.  It is brilliantly holographic and a warm orange that’s fun and, for me and this trip, was close enough to a nice hoppy beer color for my tastes.  I’m IN LOVE with this holographic polish, and as this is my first experience with the Color Club brand, I’m very excited to go back.  I tried picking up the purple holo when I was back at the vicinity of the store, but they were all out, so I think I may have to buy it online if they don’t restock soon.

Indoor lighting just did not do this polish justice, so while we were out exploring Fort Humboldt, I put my hand against this huge redwood tree stump that was twice as tall as I am (which isn’t hard at 5’3″) and took a nice shot in the late afternoon sun.  You can see the spectrum of holographic reflection and the nice warm orange.

I’m excited to try more Holo Hues.  Have you embraced holographic nail polish yet?
