Arbitrage:

  • A practice through which Web publishers – second-tier search engines, directories and vertical search engines – engage in the buying and reselling of Web traffic.

Arbitrage is one of the most confusing aspects of the industry. I just started to get a handle on it after sitting down with ML's president about it. This is a really good definition, and makes the whole practice seem far less complicated.
