Rubber Ducky Baby Sprinkle: The Decorations

Posted on Jun 17, 2015 in Crafts |

Continuing in my series about the Rubber Ducky Baby Sprinkle I threw in April for my friend Jennie, today we’ll talk about the decorations.  Having the sprinkle at the park meant I wouldn’t go hog-wild on decorations, but would have some flares and could stretch my creativity.

Rubber Ducky Baby Sprinkle DecorationsI knew right away that I wanted to use my Cricut Explore to make a banner.  So I headed into JoAnn’s again and by some of the greatest luck ever, their scrapbook paper that’s usually 50-80¢ each was 5 for $1.  Score!  This allowed me to pick up more paper than I needed, just in case I fowled something up.  The timing was also just right for these Cricut projects since I had a 2 week free trial of their image subscription service due to some downtime they’d been experiencing with Cricut Design Space, so I had access to more images and could do some really cool things.  I set to making the banner and then headed to my local party supply store to get matching balloons, plates, napkins, and tablecloths.  I ended up with blue table cloths, blue polka dot napkins to make into bow ties, and some balloons.  They did not have the soft yellow plates and cups I was looking for, but thankfully I found those at Dollar Tree!

Rubber Ducky Baby Sprinkle CenterpiecesI bought rubber ducky ribbon I happened across at Walmart to decorate my 2.5 gallon beverage dispenser I already had so it would fit the theme a little better (not quite, but better than spending $20 on a 3 gallon dispenser I have no room to store).  I’ll talk about it a bit more when I talk about the food in a post later in this series.

I also scored on the after-Easter sales at Dollar Tree to get the baby blue candies and chocolate ducks that I used for the centerpieces.  I bought the bin to hold the favors and decided to use my Cricut once again to put Colin’s name on it in vinyl so it could be reused for him after the shower.  Unfortunately, when I got to the park I realized that out of the 4 chocolate rubber ducks I had, 2 had melted beyond recognition, so thankfully there being 4 tables I easily just offset it by putting two out on every other table on top of the blue “bubbles” and in the other two I just put the other block and filled them with the It’s a Boy! Hershey’s Kisses that Lorenza had bought.

Rubber Ducky Baby Sprinkle Boy Advice CardsI wanted to utilize the baby jumper shape in Cricut Design Space, so I cut a bunch and figured out what to do with them later!  We put them out and asked attendees to write down advice for raising a boy, since Jennie & Tim’s first child is a girl  We got some fun advice and some serious advice, and I was pretty tickled by the little poem I came up with for the sign!  After the sprinkle, I put them together into a little booklet for Jennie.

The same ten fingers
The same ten toes
but one little difference
that everyone knows!

TRubber Ducky Baby Sprinkle Napkin Bow Tieshe day before the rubber ducky baby shower (er, sprinkle!), my other BFF’s Lorenza & Rachel helped me assemble the napkin bow ties.  It took some trial & error to get it right, but I think we did okay.  The napkins are just held together with a bit of yellow ribbon on double-sided tape squares usually used for scrapbooking.  While I didn’t really incorporate anything else with bow ties into the decor, I still think it worked out because the colors matched and it was just the cutest way to keep the napkins and cutlery together.

Rubber Ducky Baby Sprinkle Napkin Bow TiesAt the party we kept the napkins in the personalized bin I made for for big sister to be Joy so she wouldn’t feel too left out. You can’t see in the photo, but I used the same font as the Colin bin to personalize Joy’s bin.  She is a little fashionista, so I figured she could always use it for dress up clothes, toys, whatever!  And the bin was a dollar, so, win-win.  Just imagine the one that says Colin, but red and says Joy!
