Rubber Ducky Baby Sprinkle: The Favors

Continuing in my series about the Rubber Ducky Baby Sprinkle I threw in April for my friend Jennie, today we’ll talk about the favors.  My first idea was dashed once the main items showed up, so I had to do some brainstorming with Lorenza for a new idea.  It turned out SO much better!

Rubber Ducky Baby Sprinkle FavorsMy initial idea was to have these mini baby boy rubber duckies as the favor and tie the tag around their necks.  However when they arrived, they were more “mini” than I expected!  I knew they would not be the same size as your average rubber ducky, obviously, but I expected them to be about 3″ long.  They were more like 1.75″ long.  My downfall was really that I’d gotten ahead of myself and already cut the tags… which upon arrival of the toys I discovered that the tags were bigger than the ducks!

Sure… I easily could have rethought the tags and made them smaller.  However, the print of the date was already bordering too small and I was afraid that if I redid them smaller, they would not be readable since I was using the Print then Cut feature from Cricut Design Space.  So I brainstormed with my friend Lorenza and we came up with the idea of putting them in little organza bags (score 2 for Dollar Tree) with the tags inside and with bath salt.  Wanting to get it just right, I headed to Michael’s and bought ArtMinds™ Bath Salts and added my own blue soap dye and peppermint oil and they came out great!

Rubber Ducky Baby Sprinkle Bath Salt Favors (Front)Word to the wise… if you want to do this, be mindful that a little goes a long way when it comes to peppermint oil.  I over-did it a bit and at first it was way overpowering.  So I left the Ziploc bag open overnight to air it out a bit and by the time Lorenza and I sat down the day before the shower to assemble them, it was much more tolerable.  the 2lb canister of ArtMinds™ Bath Salts was more than enough to make 32 of these little buggers, in fact 1lb probably would have sufficed.  I only had to use a few drops of the blue soap dye.

All in all, these cost about $1 each considering the bath salts, rubber duckies, and organza bags.  I already had the paper for the tags, the peppermint oil, and the soap dye on hand, but if you bought pre-dyed and pre-scented bath salts and had to buy the paper, you’d only be looking at a few more dollars overall.

Since the tags were a little bigger than the duckies, they ended up with a cute Alfred Hitchcockian feeling of the silhouette profile!  We put the tag in first, then guessed and hit it perfect the first time that 1 tbsp was the perfect amount of salts to put into these little bags.  The mini rubber ducky went on top of the salt, facing the same direction of the tag, and boom!  Cute as a button and super creative!
