New York Skyline Manicure for #ASE14

A few weeks ago I made my triumphant return to New York City to attend and speak at Affiliate Summit East 2014.  Since I’ve been blogging about my nails for a little over a year now, and of course sharing all of those posts to Facebook, a lot of my industry colleagues have taken notice that I have a penchant for nail art and started asking me how I was going to do my nails.

Challenge: Accepted!

ColorFoil Chrome Polka Dots

I looked far & wide for these damn things!  Seriously, years ago, maybe when I was still in college (yikes), Sally Hansen came out with what they called Chrome Nail Makeup.  I still have a few bottles as I love the high-metallic finish.  I wish they were even MORE metallic and reflective, like those pins you see floating around of mirror-finish nails, but alas, I don’t think that’s possible short of electroplating my nails.  When I saw that Sally Hansen had resurrected this trend this summer, I was so excited!  However, apparently I was not yet excited enough to run to the store for them.

This became a problem.

Julep Three Wishes Collection

For my June 2014 Julep Maven Box, I opted in for the Julep Three Wishes Collection.  I loved the colors when viewing them online, and I was even happier with them in person.  The three I opted for as an It Girl were Julep Savoy (an antique gold chrome), Julep Phia (an orchid iridescent chrome), and Julep Jennine (a full-coverage borealis blue stardust).  The Stardust polishes are Julep’s answer to the textured polish craze, providing a matte glitter that gives just enough sparkle.

Finger Paints Poolside Paradise Collection

Originally when I grabbed these two colors I’d recently bought, I was going to attempt a star burst manicure I saw on Pinterest.  What could go wrong?  Oh, just everything.  So that’s not the manicure I ended up with, and instead I went with this random, chaotic angled half & half that probably looks familiar.  It’s similar to my Slightly Nautical Manicure, except the angle goes in the same direction on every finger.

Slightly Nautical Manicure

In my recent exploration of nail polishes I bought that I hadn’t yet used, I wanted to kill two birds with one stone on some Julep polishes I had hanging around.  I held some swatches up beside each other and decided that I really liked Julep Margot, a metallic gold, and Julep Monaco, a cobalt blue labeled the Color of Spring 2014, together.  I find that, of all the colors I wear, I don’t really wear bold blues that much, so I liked the idea of not going nuts with it and tempering the look with the soft gold.

A Vampy Red: Julep Scarlett

A Vampy Red: Julep Scarlett

Remember when I went to the opening of the San Francisco Dungeon?  Well I had just removed a somewhat unsuccessful manicure that was specific to an event I went to, and I needed something quick and appropriate.  I decided to look through some of the polishes I have got recently that I haven’t had a chance to use yet.  Julep Scarlett jumped out at me as appropriate for touring the San Francisco Dungeon – vampy, sparkly, and simple.  Simple both in that it would be quick to put on and wouldn’t be a lot of work for a manicure that no one would really notice.  This was not an event where anyone was likely to compliment my nails, or even see them, really, so I just wanted them to not be bare!
