I logged into Commission Junction today to see this:

CJ Search

The timing of this is pretty curious, if you ask me.  Right on the heels of Google Affiliate Network and their declaring that they’re 86’ing the referrals.  So what’s up now Calacanis – SEO still bullshit?

Free Toolsday for June 10th

Posted on Jun 10, 2008 in Affiliate Marketing, Tools |

OK it’s TECHNICALLY still the 10th here in California, so here’s this week’s free tool.

SEO Quakeseo-quake is an extension for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. It’s a great tool for webmasters to improve their websites, but also a terrific tool for an affiliate manager doing due diligence on the websites their affiliates list.

My favorite feature is the Whois tool. I use this to check the registrant information on websites on affiliate applications before I approve them. I use the whois data to try to weed out the shadier side of affiliates registering with websites that do not belong to them.

As with most toolbars or extensions, which features you include are completely customizable. Another great feature for the SEM/SEO minded is the page rank button and the other Alexa rankings and Google index numbers.

Of course, there are tons of features of the toolbar that I haven’t even explored! So go check it out at www.SEOquake.com and tell me what your most useful feature of the toolbar is!

Link Glossary: Outbound Links

Posted on Apr 23, 2008 in Affiliate Marketing |

Outbound Links:

  • A link that points away from your website.

Outbound links are a great way to receive some link love from the recipients, but be careful. The more outbound links are on a webpage, the less value the links have. You don’t want to make the outbound links more attractive than your own content or visitors will not stay on your site long.

A good tip when placing outbound links is to make sure they open in another window or tab instead of redirecting the visitor completely away from your website. To do this, add TARGET=”_blank” within the HREF tag in the HTML to open the link in a new window.

This concludes the Link Glossary series. If you have any glossary set request ideas please email them to me at blog@trishalyn.com or just leave a comment, of course!

Link Glossary: Authority Pages

Posted on Apr 21, 2008 in Affiliate Marketing |

Authority Pages:

  • Web page with many unique domains linking in to it.

Home pages tend to have more authority as most people are prone to link their visitors to the general website they want to share with them instead of a deep linked page. Authority is an excellent tool in your SEO efforts as it raises your page rank and increases your traffic. The more domains link to you, the more are likely to link to you.
