AdWords:

  • Google’s text-based advertising system. It is cost-per-click (CPC) advertising and publishers pay only when users click on their ad.  It has cost-control features that can set daily budget and limits.

glossary bookMany businesses use AdWords heavily to improve their rankings in search engines.  Some companies have entire teams devoted to search engine marketing and related search engine optimization.  On the other hand, some smaller businesses rely on outside firms to handle all their SEM efforts.

Online Marketing Glossary: AdSense

Posted on Jul 2, 2008 in Affiliate Marketing |

AdSense:

  • An advertising program run by Google enabling website owners to display text and image advertisements.  Revenue is generated on a pay-per-click basis.  Google uses its search technology to serve ads based on website content and users’ geographical location.

glossary bookAdSense is held as the golden standard of search marketing, above rival search engines Yahoo! and MSN.  There are several gurus out there Joel Comm who write books on how to use AdSense with the highest effectiveness to generate revenue.  I won a copy of his latest eBook AdSense Secrets 6 from blogger & super affiliate Zac Johnson, but I have yet to read it.  Which is probably why my all-time AdSense earnings (ok all time is only the last couple of months) are sitting at a jealousy-inducing $6.56!

Loyalty Affiliates:

  • Affiliates who offer incentives to their members with cash back or other benefits and rewards to shop through their website.  Often they own cash back shopping websites.

glossary bookSome popular and well known examples of loyalty affiliate sites are Upromise.com and Ebates.  These sites give the user points for rewards as well as cash back, encouraging them to shop through their affiliate links.  Many sites are able to finance the rewards for users based directly from the commissions they receive on the sales and leads.
