Sponsor My Nike+ Challenge for Charity
Friday
Feb 26, 2010
Always leading by example, the good folks at Affiliate Summit have set up a great challenge to donate to charity leading up to Affiliate Summit East 2010 in New York this summer. They’ve set up a challenge page on Nike’s website and have pledged to donate $1 per mile up to $5,000) to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. So far, LKFan is in the lead with nearly 120 miles!
Now, if you’ve ever met me, you can tell in 2 seconds that I’m not a runner. I’d pass out half a block from my house if I attempted to run. However, I do enjoy walking around with my camera in hand to take pictures, and honestly, I need more motivation to get out there into the world and walk more for my health.
Here’s the rub. For reasons beyond logical understanding, the Nike+ sensor required for this challenge is only compatible with the iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPod Nano – none of which I have. I have the iPod Classic and for some odd reason, they don’t make a sensor that’s compatible. Nike does, however, make a SportBand, which would work for me. However, priced at $60 it’s a bit outside my budget for this time of year.
This is your opportunity to sponsor me in this challenge! So, for the low price of buying the SportBand for me, you will get:
- My commitment to walk at least 30 miles between now and August.
- If you send me a 2xl shirt with your logo, I will wear it in high traffic areas where I walk.
- Many appreciative mentions of your name, company, brand, etc. both here on my blog, on Twitter, and on my podcast, Affiliate Marketing Fanatics on GeekCast.fm.
- The heart warming knowledge that you’re helping me help Affiliate Summit donate to a wonderful cause, furthering advancements in Breast Cancer research.
So, interested? Want something more out of this deal? I’m willing to negotiate! Comment if you’re interested, or shoot me an email.
Let’s Just Do It!
Game Changer: Prfessor.com

According to a May 2009 report by the U.S. Department of Education, “Online learning… is one of the fastest growing trends in educational uses of technology.” This is a great opportunity for ANYONE to share their knowledge of any subject with others and actually make some money. This is a game changer as it takes education to a level more easily accessible for everyone. Anyone with extensive knowledge on any topic can create their own university and spread knowledge to others.
Prfessor is to online universities what Blogger is to online weblogs – a super easy, brandable way to start your own university. The genius of Prfessor is that you can set up the university to teach whatever you want that you hold expertise on, whether that’s business and marketing, or something more fun like cross-stitch and needlepoint or model train building. You don’t have to bear the brunt of the work either – many Prfessor based online universities have grown to include not only the founder as a professor, but other skilled teachers have been recruited to offer students incredibly well rounded content.
Online learning (a) helps increase the availability of learning experiences for learners who cannot or choose not to attend traditional face-to-face offerings… (b) is a cost-efficient way to put together and disseminate instructional content… or (c) helps instructors to “handle more students while maintaining learning outcome quality.”. I can tell you that this is true – my husband is about to graduate from DeVry University after having taken three years of courses part-time online after work. There’s no way he could have achieved this if he was forced to attend a physical school as his work hours often include on-call service calls and overtime. People want to learn, and online is the way to go.
Prfessor just launched yesterday, and only 200 accounts are being offered to begin with. It’s a relatively low barrier of entry to start a university – $1997 for a custom-skinned (designed) account, and that after 30-days you will be charged only $49.97 a month for the use of the software. You’ll also get the bonuses of the branding, help from content experts to get you going, and hands-on premium support. Go ahead – start sharing your extensive knowledge on a topic and let me know – I just might take your class!

Where has Trisha been?!

Like a lot of people, I’ve had my head down working. I’ve been working hard managing the MyJewelryBox.com Affiliate Program. I’ve had so much to do I haven’t had a ton of energy at the end of the day to keep up the blog. Regrettably that means that you, dear reafer, have suffered.
Actually, I’m not so full of myself to honestly believe that you’ve suffered without my blogging. There are many other resources to get your news in all things online marketing. I started this blog almost exactly two years ago, and I still question whether people actually learn something from my mumbles here.
Coming up at the beginning of next month I’ll be attending Affiliate Summit East 2009 in New York City, speaking on a panel called Getting Noticed FAST. Our goal is to help others make a name for themselves within the industry as we’ve tried to make a name for ourselves. We’ve put a lot of time into our preparation; we want to make sure that the attendees walk away with concrete, actionable items to apply to their own careers.
My husband Dominic Fawver will be attending with me. He’s currently finishing up a degree in business, focusing on pro0ject management. He’s interested in potentially going into affiliate marketing , so he’s attending to help me cover all the sessions for this blog. He’s excited to learn more about what I do and the people I interact with, and I’m excited for him to get this introduction to my professional world as well. We’re also tacking a couple days onto our trip to do some sight seeing. Neither of us have ever been to New York, so we’ll be seeing Avenue Q the Friday night before the conference and meeting up with some friends who live in the NYC area.
I’ll also be staffing the Meet Market table for Affiliate Marketers Give Back from 5-6pm Sunday August 9th during the show. In an effort to raise money for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, AMGB will be offering limited-edition Affiliate Summit hats (available for a $40 donation) and Affiliate Marketers Give Back laptop stickers (available for a $10 donation). If you won’t be attending and would still like to make a donation, you can do so at AMGBWalk.com.
On Tuesday I’m happy to be participating in GeekCast Live. I’m betting since this one has an open invite and is officially on the schedule, it’ll go a lot more as planned than when they tried to do one in Boston at ASE08. By “as planned”, I know before they had more of a Diggnation vision in mind than the devolved drunken conversation that happened. It should be a good time and a great way to end the conference.
So what now? I hope to come back from Affiliate Summit with a renewed passion for this blog. More great content for you. Stay tuned!
